London Vacation
If you live in the U.S., taking a London vacation is a worthwhile trip to take if you would like a short trip across the Atlantic. London is a city steeped in history, with a vast array of cultural and historical sites, a rich music scene, a thriving theatre tradition and an infinite amount of trade and shopping venues for the traveler.
Around the world, London has long been known as England's busting capital of activity and commerce. Poets, writers, musicians, scientists ad infinitum have written, sung, studied and discovered here. On your London vacation itinerary, 'literary walking tours' are a favorite among many tourists, who can see the likes of Wordsworth's old house or wish to see Virginia Woolf's Bloomsbury neighborhood. Many guidebooks and tourist operators offer up these choices to travelers who have decided to include some cultural trips in their London vacation.
If you enjoy the theatre, you can fill your London vacation with a different theatre show every night. Shakespeare's famous Globe Theatre resides on the banks of the Thames, along with the Queen's theatre and the famous Soho theatres that have some of the longest-running shows in history. Tickets can be purchased cheaply in one of many outlets in Leicester Square, and it is likely to see a show at the days and times that you desire.
The architecture of London reflects its varied and rich history. The British tradition is a bastion of naval and colonial hegemony over hundreds of years. On a typical London vacation, you can find tributes to wartime generals, kings and queens, and inspirational British leaders. Even unattractive buildings that seem out of place in the center of the city have a history: many were placed there in the fifties after London was bombed in the Blitz.
During the day, you may want to take the many types of public transport offered up to visitor. The Underground is an incredibly popular way to get around if you are taking a London vacation, because it simply gets you to most places in the city quickly and easily. Taking one of the many double-decker buses might also be an option. Running frequently and cheaply, the buses are a great way to people watch while getting to know the topography of the town.
The social scene in London is tantamount only to New York, Paris and Tokyo. Live music, clubbing venues, pubs and restaurants are everywhere, depending on your tastes. If you would like to see the real heartbeat of the city, than investigating its nightlife is a great way to spend the evenings during your London vacation. My first year living in London comprised checking out many clubs - from the North boroughs of Camden and Islington to the South Boroughs of Brixton and Clapham.
The poor culinary reputation that Britain has is undeserved. If you decide to take a London vacation, capitalize off the thousands of restaurants at your disposal. The gastronomic choices are really endless, and you may just find yourself, after tasting all the delights of London, wishing you could stay longer than your plane ticket allows.
